About Us

“excellence and beauty can come from what we already have”

What we do

We make accessories from materials that already exist.

Our Purpose

Aster’s purpose is to combine reclaimed material with the finest quality craftsmanship to create timeless, made-to-last, bags and purses.

Our Vision

The vision is to change attitudes towards repurposing; showing that excellence and beauty can come from what we already have.

Our Approach

Our approach is to slow fashion down by using minimal new materials and only creating small batches at a time.

Why we do it

“avoiding the need for more new material to be produced is a positive step we can all take to help the environment”

We believe repurposing is experiencing a much-needed renaissance.

Repurposing is a way of being that many of us were brought up with – and it’s certainly how our grandparents, and those before them, went about treating their treasured possessions. There was a real upside to receiving hand-me-down clothes or cutting up shirts for cleaning rags, in that we lessened the demand for more new material to be produced.

Unfortunately, in today’s fashion world there’s a continual trend to buy new; to use and then discard. The impact of this is too much energy being used in new material production and too much clothing waste ending up in landfill.

With the re-use of recovered materials in manufacturing processes or in consumption cycles, there is a strong decrease of CO2 emissions compared to the production of virgin materials. Here is an example of the environmental benefits derived from a study of the University of Copenhagen which shows the environmental advantages resulting from the collection of used clothing.

By collecting 1kg of used clothing one can reduce:

process-bg-holder
CO2 emissions

3.6kg of CO2 emissions

Water Consumption

6000ltr of water consumption

Fertilisers

0.3kg of the use of fertilisers

Pesticides

0.2kg of the use of pesticides

How we do it

We have sourced outstanding British craftspeople who ensure an ethical and sustainable approach to all that they produce.

Together we have created a small collection of purses and bags that are consciously classic in style and multifunctional by design, as well as having a minimal impact on the environment. We only use pre-owned material as the main outer fabric. We are meticulous about recyclable packaging and transparent about how all our production waste is managed.

We are passionate about educating our customers on how to listen to their conscience and in doing so, buy less. We feel it’s right that our customers know where their goods have been made, who created them and the impact the materials used have on the environment.

We hope that this level of transparency heightens awareness of what should be considered when investing in something ‘new’ and encourages people to think about repurposing first.

Uniquely, we offer our customers the option to have their own belongings repurposed into one of our designs, safe in the knowledge that their precious items will be handled by the best skilled craftspeople, creating a unique new accessory for them to enjoy. If you are interested in repurposing your own materials, please email contact@asterluxurygoods.com and we can start a conversation.

Why Aster?

The meaning and symbolism of Aster.

With their wildflower beauty and lush texture, asters have long been considered an enchanted flower. Today, they’re known as a talisman of love and a symbol of patience.

Asters are daisy-like perennials with starry-shaped flower heads. They bring delightful colour to the garden in late summer and autumn when many other summer blooms may be fading.

Perennial flowers continue to grow year upon year, after remaining dormant throughout the winter.

Asters speak perfectly to our ethos – fusing love, beauty, patience and renewal.
